Fertility Evaluation of Adult Female Wistar Rats Administered with Ethanolic Extract of Pausinystalia yohimbe Stem Bark

Pausinystalia yohimbe (P. yohimbe) stem bark powder is commonly used as seasoning for barbecue beef in Nigeria and some West African countries. This study evaluated the effect of ingesting ethanol extract P. on hormones tissues linked with fertility female Wistar rats. A total fifteen adult rats weighing between 140 - 160g were this after an initial Acute Toxicity test was done to establish a safe dose range extract. The animals randomly divided into three groups five per group. Group 1 served control received normal saline while Groups 2 3 400 mg/kg 800 body weight (bw) respectively, via oral gavage, 21 days. At end treatment period, weighed, sacrificed blood, ovary uterus samples collected determination reproductive (follicle-stimulating hormone, estrogen, progesterone) histological examination using standard methods. results showed that LD50 3807.89 bw. There significant (p˂0.05) increases weight, estrogen follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) treated compared control. Histological also degenerative changes 3, no alterations when These suggest continuous consumption may alter systemic concentration well morphology which lead reduced function infertility.
